It appears there are more translations for this Hebrew name than I originally found when I named my daughter; I researched it in 1998 and its translation was "God has promised." Current translations include "Gift of God," "Integrity of the Lord," "Promised of God," and "Given by God." Though masculine (it was popular among Levite priests in the Old Testament, and one Amariah blessed the prophet Nehemiah), it works well as a feminine name today and is gaining popularity.
